I am an Assistant Professor in Sociology at Florida State University. I am a scholar of international migration whose research spans the sociology of work, gender, culture, and economy,  as well as global and transnational sociology, with a geographic focus on East and Southeast Asia. Drawing on the extended case method and extensive fieldwork in Indonesia, Singapore, and Taiwan, I illuminate how labor migration systems connect people in late developing societies. I have theorized the formation of cross-border labor markets, the logic of labor and migration controls, and the construction of gender subjectivities in leading scholarly journals such as Social Forces, Social Problems, and Pacific Affairs.

I am currently working on my first book project, which is a comparative ethnography of international markets for migrant domestic work.

Beyond receiving support from a variety of national and international funding organizations, my research has been recognized with awards and honorable mentions from seven sections of the American Sociological Association and the Society for the Study of Social Problems. 

I earned my doctorate in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and my master's in Comparative Government from the University of Oxford. I was a Rosenberg Institute Scholar at the Institute for East Asian Studies, Suffolk University and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Southeast Asia Centre, London School of Economics. Prior to joining FSU, I was an Assistant Professor in Sociology at Singapore Management University. I am a fluent speaker of Taiwanese, Mandarin, Indonesian, and English.
